David H. Thornton

President, Climax Molybdenum Company

Dave Thornton is President of Climax Molybdenum.  Dave has held positions of increasing responsibility with Phelps Dodge/Freeport-McMoRan since joining the company in 1978.  Prior to his current position Dave was Vice President of New Mexico operations and President of Chino Mines Company.  Prior to this position Dave was President of the Candelaria mining complex in Chile, SA. Dave holds a Bachelor of Science degree in Chemistry from the University College of New York at Potsdam.  

Jim Handley

Vice President, Global Operations

Jim Handley is Vice President of Global Operations at Climax Molybdenum Company. Jim has been with the company for more than 18 years, most recently as President, Climax Engineered Materials. Before that, he spent three years as Vice President, Climax Engineered Materials, where he was responsible for new product development, growth, production, and sales and marketing. Jim started with the company as a process engineer at the Hidalgo smelter. He holds a Bachelor of Science degree in Chemical Engineering and a Master of Business Administration degree from the University of New Mexico.

Barbara Buck

Vice President, Sales and Marketing (Not Shown)

Barbara Buck is Vice President of Sales and Marketing at Climax Molybdenum Company. She joined Climax Molybdenum in June, 2005. Barbara has more than 30 years of experience in the chemicals and plastics industry. Her career began as a process development engineer at Union Carbide. She has held business management and sales and marketing positions with Union Carbide, Amoco Chemical and UCB Chemical. She holds a Bachelor of Science degree in Chemical Engineering from Carnegie-Mellon University in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania and attended the Wharton Senior Management Program in September/October 1996.

Mike J. Kendrick

Vice President, Technical Services (Not Shown)

Mike Kendrick is Vice President of Technical Services at Climax Molybdenum Company. Mike has been with the company for more than 10 years, most recently as Vice President of Processing North American Operations. Prior to that he was the General Manager for the Bagdad Mine after returning from South America where he was the General Manager of the El Abra Mine as well as the Concentrator Manager at the Candelaria Mine. Mike started his career at the Henderson mine. He holds a Bachelor of Science degree in Mining Engineering from the Colorado School of Mines and a Master of Business Administration from the University of Denver.

Mohamed Khan

Vice President, Asia and Business Development

Mohamed Khan is Vice President of Technology and New Business Development. Previously, he was Vice President of Applications Development.  He has spent the past 30 years with Phelps Dodge/Freeport-McMoRan and holds a Bachelor of Science degree in Metallurgy from the Indian Institute of Technology, Madras, in Chennai, India. He also holds a Master of Science degree in Metallurgy and a Master’s degree in Business Administration from the University of Arizona. He holds or co-holds a number of patents for products and processes now used throughout the company.

Timothy J. Olson

Controller

Tim Olson is Controller of Climax Molybdenum Company and is responsible for all financial matters related to Climax. Tim joined Climax as the Controller in 2001 and has been with Phelps Dodge/Freeport-McMoRan since 1986.  Tim has held several financial positions within Phelps Dodge/Freeport-McMoRan. He has a Bachelor of Science degree in Business Administration from the University of Arizona.
